Howdy! The Apple “Awe Dropping” event is just around the corner, and the rumor mill is in overdrive. We’ve all seen the leaks, heard the whispers, and now it’s time to talk: Will the iPhone 17 actually be worth the hype, or is it just another incremental update?
I’ve been digging through all the speculation, and here’s a breakdown of what we’re supposedly getting with the iPhone 17 compared to the iPhone 16. Let’s get into it.
IPHONE 16 (Current)
Display: 6.1-inch, 60Hz display
Front Camera: 12 MP
Chip: A18 chip
RAM: 8 GB
Design: Vertical camera alignment
New Model: iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max
Colors: Ultramarine, Teal, Pink, White, Black
___________________________________IPHONE 17 (Rumored)
Display: 6.3-inch, 120Hz ProMotion display (finally!)
Front Camera: 24 MP (major glow-up for selfies and video calls)
Chip: A19 chip (or A19 Pro on the Pro models)
RAM: Up to 12 GB on Pro models, maybe even the standard one?
Design: New horizontal “visor” camera bar (on Pro models)
New Model: iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max
Colors: Black, White, Steel Gray, Green, Purple, Light Blue
THE PROS
120Hz on the standard model: This is a HUGE deal. ProMotion makes everything feel so much smoother, and getting it on the base model would be a game-changer for most people.
Massive front-camera upgrade: Going from 12 MP to 24 MP means better selfies, more detailed video for TikToks, and just overall sharper images. This is a win for anyone who lives on their front camera.
More RAM and a new chip: The A19 chip combined with more RAM is going to make this thing fly, especially with all the new Apple Intelligence features. It’s built for power users and AI.
The iPhone 17 Air: A new, super-thin model could be the perfect middle ground for people who want a bigger screen without the bulk of the Pro Max.
THE CONS
Is it enough of an upgrade? For anyone with an iPhone 16 or 15, the “upgrades” might feel a little… meh. A lot of the biggest changes are still rumored to be exclusive to the Pro models.
Price hike: There are whispers that Apple is planning to raise prices this year. With all the new tech, it’s not a stretch to think the price tag might hit a new high.
The design might not be for everyone: The rumored horizontal camera bar on the Pro models is a big departure. Some will love it, some will think it looks wild.
Will the new “Air” model be worth it? We don’t know the full specs or price yet. It could be a genius move or a confusing addition to the lineup.
Final Thoughts
Honestly, this feels like one of those years where the Pro models will get all the love, but the standard iPhone 17 will get just enough to make a solid case for itself. The 120Hz display and the selfie cam bump are major wins that bring a “Pro” feel to the base phone.
If you’re rocking an iPhone 15 or 16, it might be tough to justify the upgrade unless you really crave that smoother display or a better front camera. But if you’re holding on to an older iPhone, like a 14 or 13, the 17 looks like a seriously tempting jump.
What do you all think? Are you ready to upgrade, or are you waiting to see what Apple actually drops? Let me know what features you’re most excited (or worried) about!
